American Idol S05E22 - Top 11

11...

and tonight, they'll sing to the sounds of the 50s! this can actually be good! and barry manilow is, again, a mentor for the idolettes. "fan-ilows"? SERIOUSLY??? the top 11 went to lv to meet barry, and get some advice from him. he also helped arrange the songs.

1) mandisa - "i don't hurt anymore" by dinah washington. barry admits mandisa had a better idea of how to arrange the song. i have to admit, i'm not a fan of mandisa. but this performance, i liked. i think it's more the song than her singing, though it was admittedly good. the a capella part of the ending was bad, for me, but overall very good. randy's speechless. he thought it was a great, classy, amazing way to start the night. paula rambles. she talked about horses, escaping and chairs. simon says mandisa's blossoming, and thought it was a very sexy performance. he "absolutely LOVED it". man-diva? as in a male diva? ugh...

2) bucky - "oh, boy!" by buddy holly. barry thought the song was repetitive, so they changed the song up. the start was decieveing, and i was expecting a faster song. i'm disappointed. it was a bit repetitive. and not good, at all. the falsetto at the end was just plain wrong. randy loves the song choice, and thought the falsetto at the end was cool. paula rambles. simon called it a pointless karaoke performance. not karaoke, but POINTLESS karaoke. i sorta understand where simon's coming from.

3) paris - "fever" by peggy lee. some talk about age. i dunno. she did in hollywood, i think. damn. that was her best performance, EVER! it was SO good! i got nuthin' else to say 'bout it. randy thought she blew it out the box. huh? paula rambles. simon says this is what she says best. not paula and rambling, paris and these sort of songs.

4) chris - "i walk the line" by johnny cash. hmmm... i would have picked a different song... chris knocked barry out. seriously. and then barry called him baby. seriously. the start was somewhat odd. but the rest of it was great! if he arranged it alone, he's a very creative rocker! yeah, i tried to compliment the arrangement, but it didn't work. not his best, but still very good! and he showed he can do more slow-er as well as fast rock type of songs. i LOVED it. paula's screaming. randy's voice is SHOT! he thought it wasn't his best, but loved the arrangement. and, apparently, chris is ready. paula rambles. simon doesn't think it matters that it wasn't a great vocal. he thinks he's the first idol contestant that won't compromise. sounds about right. constance's in da house... and he's got glasses... ugh...

COCA COLA! kat saw simon and his gf on tv, or sumthin...

5) katharine - "come rain or come shine" by ella fitzgerald. she thinks barry's awesome. oh, and he's also awesome. a very classy, and really good, performance from kat. for some reason, i'm having problems concentrating on tonight's show. i dunno. not randy's fave, but he thinks it was really really song, and she worked it out. paula rambles. simon thinks she turned into a star tonight. he LOVED it.

6) taylor - "not fade away" by boddy holly and the crickets. a great song, made even greater by the rolling stones, quite early on in their career. barry did something to the ending. PERFECT song choice. even with the spastic dancing. bringing out the sax player was nice. i think they could have arranged the song A LOT better, but he did a very nice job with it. paula's screaming. randy thought he worked it out, and he loves him. paula rambles. simon thought it was a complete mess. simon points out that paula's talking rubbish. paula's DRUNK!

COCA COLA! lisa talks about being in the bottom 3. i think.

7) lisa - "why do fools fall in love?" by frankie lymon and the teenagers. the original is just SO annoying. barry was digging it when she sang. wow that sucked. the song really didn't fit her. it wasn't terrible, but there wasn't a single thing about it that was good. i really don't like her. randy thought it was a good song choice, but it was just alright. paula rambles. simon thought it was ok, but at times tonight he feels he's in a high school musical. paula's DRUNK!

8) kevin - "when i fall in love" by nat king cole. i know SOMONE did this song already. he get's all sappy when talking about the song choice. barry wanted to innocentify the song. this style of music fits him so much better than what he did last week. but he looks so awkward. the singing was very good, but the performance was horrid! randy sees himself in him. paula rambles. simon likes him, and he likes simon.

COCA COLA! elliot talks about something.

9) elliot - "teach me tonight" by the decastro sisters. barry tries to teach alliot about backphrasin. ryan introduced him as elliot "yummy". elliot's not a good student. i dunno. it was good. i dunno. randy thought he chose the toughest song, and he worked it out, despite some rough spots. paula rambles. simon says it was fantastic. i say, i dunno.

10) kellie - "walkin' after midnight" by patsy cline. her grandpa told her to do patsy cline. barry tried to teach about understanding and conveying the lyrics. she's got TOO MUCH make up on. but the outfit was cute. she sounded french at times. i knowit's wierd, but she did! i was impressed by the pickler. it was, arguably, one of, if not her best performance. randy says she gave a good performance, and that she back. paula rambles. simon thinks she got it absolutely right, and it was just great.

11) ace - "in the still of the night" by the five satins. barry was worried about doing a jazzy version. i agree. the arrangement was eh. the singing was eh. the first clay imitator that made it to the semi-finals was better at it. it was just average, and that's not good enough. and again with that horrible falsetto. ugh. paula's screaming. she's drunk. randy thinks he's back. paula's drunk. she rambles.
