5... (constance's out (!))
TWO themes tonight, meaning two performances a piece. the themes are lieber & stoller, and that week's billboard top 40 charts.
round 1 - lieber & stoller:
1) anthony - "poison ivy" by the coasters. he's a goof ball. well, that sucked. just terrible. so bad, in fact, that i don't feel like talking about it anymore. paula rambles. that's the second time simon called him insipid.
2) scott - "on broadway" by the drifters. he ain't leaving until he becomes a star on broadway. isn't that a bad thing in idol-dom? it was very good! when he sang "you said i wouldn't last too long" to simon, i actually laughed out loud! i think it might have been one of his best performances, if not the best one. very good. he probably needed that, too. paula rambles.
3) vonzell - "treat me nice" by elvis presley. that was REALLY good. perfect song choice for her. the key was higher than the elvis version, obviously, and i think it was a bit faster too, and it just worked for her, really well. paula was digging it. i was too. she sometimes got that thing that she closes her eyes and deforms her mouth on the powerful, glory notes at the end. i still don't know if that's good or bad. at least randy didn't drop any names. and she gives a sout out to the us postal service. well, there's a first time for everything.
4) bo - "stand by me" by ben e. king. that intro clip was so unnecessary. the hippie shirt was in full effect, exposing a chest tattoo (???). one of my fave songs ever. i just have this image of frogs standing on leaves in a pond belting it out. lol. it was awesome. what's more awesome is that he does all these non-rock songs and still isn't a fraude. did paula actually said he "colors it up with bo"?
5) carrie - "trouble" by elvis presley. the intro was cute, with that lip-elvis thing she did. i think it was just oh so great. from the song choice, to the looks to the camera, to kicking the mic stand, to the as usual on-point and strong vocals. LOVED it. randy tells her she "SUNG IT!!". paula didn't ramble as much as she usually does. carrie's beaming as ryan gives out her number. she's SO cute!

round 2 - billboard's top 40 charts:
1) anthony - "incomplete" by backstreet boys. NOT the one nikko did a few weeks back. this theme should actually be a good test to see how they can handle contemporary artists, and if they can compete against them. anthony, for example, can't. it wasn't terrible, but there was absolutely NOTHING good about it. simon might be right about the song choice, but i don't think he sang it well, at all.
2) scott - "everytime you go away" by brian mcknight. it was alright. not great, but not bad. i might have even liked it a bit. i dunno. "i only did it this week for simon". lol! and then he got all cocky, with his "gonna think what i'm-a sing next week". aaaaaand... he lost me (as a fan, not that i ever really was).
3) vonzell - "when you tell me that you love me" by diana ross. wasn't that on the idol charity single thing? she looks classy. i prefer slutty/childish/casual, but oh, well... not as good as her first performance. it was good, but i wasn't jumping out of my seat. maybe it's the fact that we already heard it, on idol, this season. ryan fumbles his words. how can he do that when he reads from a prompter?
4) bo - "heaven" by los lonely boys. that shirt was fly. he's back to walking with the mic stand. again. it was excellent. not the usual type of bo 'n' roll (or was it?), but me likey! was that jpl in the audience? it was jpl! i know it! i feeeeeeeeeeeel it... i love it when he at least somewhat rocks. randy names him the captain of the dawgpound. is it a sports team now? best so far.
5) carrie - "bless the broken road" by rascal flatts. she's cute! really cute! this song is just so her. and obviously, it being country and all, she does a great job with it. me likey. bo was better this round, but i still really liked it.
