American Idol S04E17 - Top 16: Top 8 Guys

the most drastic cut in numbers until the top 4. 8 guys perform, 2 leave.

simon complains about contestants complaining about lack of exposure. whatever. he's wrong. randy's also wrong. the judges criticized song choices with the three he mentioned, clay, kelly and fantasia, at least once for each.

1) scott - "i can't help myself (sugar pie honey bunch)" by the four tops. he's a taurus. the most over used song in idol history, what with all the hollywood week group performances. the hand gestures were expecially terrible. but vocally he was great. i'm puzzled.

2) bo - "i'll be" by edwin mccain. he's a scorpio. oh man... i was hoping for another rock song... the second most tired song in idol history? maybe not, but still. not as exciting and entertaining as his previous performances, but still good. vocally as good as ever. at least paula didn't say touchdown... lol... he's played that song in "1 or 10 weddings". lol.

3) anthony - "i've got you" by marc anthony. he's also a taurus. he's kinda arrogant. he still freaks me out, with that gaping hole in his neck. the jacket was terrible. overall, it was a'ight. i'm still not sure how good he really is, nor if he's consistent enough to make it far in the competition. lol. "he's got as much latin flare, as a polar bear". LOL. he plays chess with travis. ok...

4) nikko - "georgia on my mind" by ray charles. another taurus? LOVE IT. the performance, not the abundance of tauruses in the guys. what paula might call a subdued performance, with quiet confidence. loved him putting the hat on the mic stand. the rings were HYOOGE. great. really, really good. randy should stop demonstrating notes.

the whole constance left the band story is really tired.

5) travis - "every little step" by bobby brown. he's an aries. he plays soccer? that's seriously cool. he's dressed like a coal miner. the dancing was too much. he took the success of his last performance as a sign he should do an uptempo song, but it failed. the "beatboxing" was just bad. as long as simon's not being rude...

6) mario - "how can you mend a broken heart" by the bee gees. he's a gemini. he DOES have hair! i'm dissapointed with him. it was good an' all, but he's taking steps backwards. instead of improving with each passing week, he gets more and more average. i guess. not bad, by any means, but could and should do better.

7) constantine - "every little thing she does is magic" by the police. he's a virgo. i'm a virgo. i hate myself. NO! i hate HIM! yeah, that's more like it. constantine shall forever be known, as the fraude 2.0. he smiles at me. i feel like running. pitchy. good song choice though. he has the stage antics of a hard-rocker, but he does all of these pop songs, and the contrast is so obvious, it just diminishes from whatever quality he does have. his reaction to the judges comments is laughable. simon's right, but that's not all - almost ANY sting/police song is going to sound like a bad sting impersonation. but as far as bad sting impersonations go, this wasn't entirely bad.

i thought this was unscripted. then how could paula and randy lose the plot? lol.

8) anwar - "what a wonderful world" by louis armstrong. ANOTHER taurus? i LOVE this song. the beginning was the best part. but the rest was pretty good too. all in all, a strong performance. didn't love the arrangement. finished it strong too. i like the quiet ending of the original better. randy made fun of himself! lol! paula's a moron. a bit better than nikko. lol at simon's puppies comment.
